Don’t Let the Fear of Change Get in the Way of Growing Your Business

It’s every entrepreneur’s dream to start and grow a business into a profitable entity. Yet, with this expansion comes a nagging fear of the unknown. Oftentimes, business owners ask themselves, “What if the company grows too fast and doesn’t have the resources to take on new things?” or, “What happens if there is too much work and I cannot find good people to hire?” These are valid fears, but they are unnecessary because there are ways of managing these growth factors.

For the most part, business owners are fearful because things are undergoing change. Change can mean many things to different people. Change can mean trying new methods, moving to a new office, or reaching out to investors to add capital resources. Change can mean stepping down as the leader and allowing someone more capable to take the business to the next level. It’s this change that drives the fear.

Fearless Business Growth Comes from Having a Plan

To overcome the fear of change in business, and to allow it to grow, one must make a plan. Just as there was a plan designed at the start of the business, there needs to be a plan to move it onward and upward.

One part of the plan is hiring great people who have the skills and knowledge to take the business in the right direction. It is foolish for one person to think he or she can do it all. Instead, hire for skills and work with a staffing agency or recruitment firm to locate talent worthy of your business goals.

Another part of the plan involves the finances. As a responsible business owner it’s critical to work with a business financial advisor who has helped other businesses grow. This may require some creative financing, obtaining silent partners, and reaching out to potential investors who believe in the business enough to provide much-needed capital.

Lastly, the plan should include one for marketing and promotion of the business through smart branding. Hiring a marketing firm can help to relaunch the business on a greater scale.

The only fear of business expansion is letting go of some of the control and allowing others to use their talents to make it happen. By using a plan, this will be strategic and focused on a bright outcome.
