How Much Sleep Do You REALLY Need to Have a Successful Day at Work?

If an individual is able to sleep soundly through the night, they may feel completely rested and rejuvenated at the lower end of the recommendation range, or even a little bit before. But it’s important to note that most people don’t fall into this category. Additionally, feeling rested may not be a sign of enough sleep, as many professionals who get less than seven hours experience diminishing performance regardless of feeling well-rested.

On the other side of the equation, and possibly representing the majority, are professionals that say they have issues with quality sleep. Their sleep may get interrupted during the night, or they might experience periods of waking that last longer than it takes to readjust into a comfortable position. When sleep quality is an issue, it can take more time to feel rested. As a result, they could land of the longer end of the recommendation range or might even require a bit more sleep than that.

There can be some impacts of getting too much sleep, however. Drifting too far over the nine-hour mark could also lead to a diminished performance at work as well.

In most cases, adults should explore waking times within the recommendation window. By trying different amounts, say by choosing a different number every other week, you can identify your perfect amount of sleep. Then, you can continue with that pattern, allowing you to be at your best.
