Vector Empowers Reynolds Elementary Second Graders

Vector is helping to educate children about careers and the workplace as part of the KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work) program. Vector’s Information Technology Specialist Terry Sneed is participating in the program at Reynolds Elementary School, which began in March and runs through May. Terry is working with three different second grade classes at the Mentor elementary school.

“Throughout my visits to the school, I worked with the children and taught them different business concepts, helping to introduce them to the importance of dreams, goal-setting, skill development, and attitude formation,” Terry says. “This is a great opportunity to show the community what we can do. I have always enjoyed working with children, and helping them grow and learn.” In addition to providing four lessons to the students during the school year, Terry will give them a tour of Vector on May 21, 22, and 23.

Tim Bleich, Vector Technical President and Owner, encourages his employees to take an active role in the community. “I think it is important that businesses provide not just a place for employees to work, but a place for them to make a difference in the lives of community members,” Tim says. “There is great value in helping children through programs like Kids and the Power of Work.”

KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work), a program of the National Child Labor Committee, is a national network of business and elementary school partnerships which introduces students to career awareness through professionally developed lessons taught by business volunteers in the classroom. In addition, students make one visit to the workplace to participate in hands-on activities. KAPOW lays a foundation for young students, introducing them to work-related concepts and experiences that can be continually reinforced throughout the formative years.
