One year ago, Vector Technical was on the lookout for a technical recruiter. We needed someone who could not only recruit the top IT professionals in the industry for our clients, but also someone who could serve as our in-house IT guru. We found our man in Terry Sneed, who will celebrate his one-year anniversary with Vector on September 1. Sneed, Vector’s IT Specialist, joined the firm on a part-time basis in August 2000 while still the Program Director for Information Technology at Bryant Stratton College. When he learned that Vector was looking for a technical recruiter, he jumped at the chance - and was soon hired permanently. Sneed serves as Vector’s recruiter for IT positions, but also acts as our network administrator. He is thus responsible for maintaining Vector’s server and network, and evaluating all software used throughout the firm. "They needed someone who could interview people who knew computers plus someone who knew what was going on with the company’s own network," Sneed said. "Vector believes that if you’re going to hire computer experts, you need to have someone who knows their language. It’s nice to have a professional interviewing the professional. That’s what impressed me with this organization." Before leaving his service in the armed forces in 1981, Sneed worked on one of the large computers that was popular back in those days - massive contraptions with five 13-inch floppy disk holders. He decided to return to college for a degree in computers, and after "falling in love with it," he earned his degree in Management Information Systems in 1989. Besides his love of computers, Sneed has a love for youth. He currently serves as a volunteer Youth Minister at First Baptist Church of Aurora, and was formerly a pastor at another church. "That is my hobby, working with youth," Sneed says. "I work with them and try to help them out so they won’t make the same mistakes I made when I was young." Sneed lives in Burton with his wife of 28 years, Patty. They have three children.

Vector is pleased to announce that it has added a new feature to its employee verification package with a new testing center. The online testing program, which encompasses tests for more than 325 clerical, industrial and technical skills, allows Vector to verify whether a candidate can perform a job as needed by testing their skills on various programs and software. Provided by ProveIt.com, the online testing program was instituted to better serve Vector’s client companies, as more and more clients have asked for candidates to be tested, especially for technical positions. Testing can be completed on a number of different software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, but what sets Vector apart from other staffing firms that provide testing is the huge variety of tests it can provide, such as technical skills in AutoCAD, COBOL, Java, and UNIX to name a few. The ProveIt.Com program, which registers results immediately via e-mail, also provides testing for Call Center skills, as well as industrial tests for things like assembly and matching, medical terminology, industrial tests for general maintenance and even sexual harassment. With these new skill tests, Vector has come full circle in its endeavor to fully serve clients by providing the most qualified and skilled employees available for a position. "We could prove that the information you provide on your resume and in the interview is correct through our background checks," said Tim Bleich, Vector president, "but this is just taking the whole concept further where we can actually verify skills." |
